about bharata natyam:

The Bharatanatyam style of dance originates from the south of India. The name is derived from Bharat Natya Sastra - the ancient book of music, dance and drama in which rules and sequences of movement are laid out. It is a stylised dance using gesture language (mudra). Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest dance forms of India and is today one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles.
